Beyond my expectations.
We flew on 2026-05-11
An extraordinary adventure. A bucket-list item that should be on everyone’s list. This was a milestone birthday present and Tim and Jodi were highly enthusiastic about making this dream come true.
Scheduling was easy – I was able to book a date in advance but was also able to change my booking to avoid strong winds that were forecast for the original flight date. Tim and Jodi were highly accommodating, wanting to make the flight happen.
Morning flights are early – get a good night’s sleep the night before if you can keep your excitement at bay!
We helped with setup of the balloon – an unexpected yet highly enjoyable hands-on experience that made it all the more special. The winds were a little unpredictable, but eventually calmed to the point where we could launch safely.
Once we were in the air, we were floating along, suspended in this half-dreamlike reality of seeing the ground in close detail yet being surrounded by miles and miles of beautiful WI landscape. We floated over a neighborhood with kids that were super excited to see us – we were close enough to the ground that we could hear one child offer an unforgettable comment of the “sick balloon” that we were riding. We waved and floated onward.
The landing was remarkably calm! We were prepared to tumble in the basket, but Tim guided us to a field safely away from any hazards. I hopped out and helped to corral the envelope – my first rodeo, so to speak.
We had cake and champagne afterwards, along with a delightful explanation of the significance of champagne to the history of hot air ballooning.
I can’t say enough good things about this experience. I would love everyone to have this in their memories as a unique, incredibly special activity that demonstrates the difference between living and just existence.
